Remember Together: A Community Ofrenda Open House
October 27 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
PCOA’s End of Life Team would like to invite you to a community ofrenda open house in honor of Dia de los Muertos. This is an opportunity to view (and add to*) a community ofrenda in honor of deceased loved ones (as well as viewing mini ofrendas created and provided by the PCOA community), learn about the historical and cultural background of Dia de los Muertos, and partake in a live discussion about the elements on ofrendas and why they are significant. You will also have the opportunity to honor the memory of departed loved ones by releasing a mariposa mensajera, or butterfly messenger.
*Please limit photos to 4 x 6 in size so we can accommodate as many photos as possible. Please make sure to put your contact information (name and phone number) on the back of any photos you contribute so we can ensure that it gets returned to you. Items should be contributed by October 31st and will be part of the ofrenda until November 18th. Items will need to be picked up by November 21st.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, masking at PCOA facilities is recommended and encouraged for staff, volunteers, and members of the public. Masks will be available if needed at our front desks. CDC recommends people at high risk of serious illness from COVID 19 discuss when they should wear masks and other precautions with their healthcare provider. PCOA representatives will gladly put on a mask at your request. For the time being, food will not be permitted to be served indoors at our facilities. Participants at in-person event(s) will be expected to adhere to distancing and safety guidelines as provided. For small or large group settings where 6 feet of physical distance cannot be always maintained, masks will be required. Guidelines for functions held in community sites not operated by PCOA may vary.
